GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS
Following your dental implant surgery, you may find it advisable to take it easy for a day or two. Usually the fewer implants placed, the sooner you will feel comfortable returning to normal activities. Jogging and vigorous activities should be avoided for a few days.
BLEEDING
Bite on gauze for two hours following surgery.
PAIN
Pain medication should be taken before numbness from local anesthetic is gone. Repeat every 4-6 hours as needed. To avoid nausea take pain medication with a milk shake or other beverage.
SWELLING
Some swelling may occur over the first 48 hours and decrease after 5 days. Apply cold packs for the first day; leave them in place 20 minutes then remove for 10 minutes and repeat. After 72 hours hot packs may be used to diminish swelling. Please keep head elevated for 48 hours following surgery (pillows under back and head while sleeping).
RINSING MOUTH
Begin the day following surgery, hold WARM salt water over the surgical area. Mix 1/2 teaspoon of table salt in a large glass of water. Rinse 4-5 times per day for 5-10 minutes each time and continue until swelling and soreness subside.
DIET
Please limit eating to a soft diet until I have instructed otherwise. Please rinse following meals. Cool foods are best for the first 48 hours to prevent bleeding.
ANTIBIOTICS
I have prescribed an antibiotic for you. Please take this medication as directed until it is gone.
